Summary

The Crawford Art Gallery, located in the heart of Cork city, is a significant cultural institution housed in a heritage building that dates back nearly 300 years. The ongoing redevelopment project, valued at €29 million, aims to enhance and upgrade the gallery to meet the demands of a dynamic national cultural institution. This project is led by the award-winning Grafton Architects.

The redevelopment includes the addition of 1,919 square meters of new space and the refurbishment and reconfiguration of 3,641 square meters of existing space. Key elements of the redevelopment include the creation of new exhibition areas, public circulation spaces, a dedicated Learn and Explore facility, and improved storage for the National Collection at Crawford.

Our fire engineering team ensured that the fire safety systems were integrated seamlessly with the building’s historic features while meeting modern safety standards. Advanced fire detection and suppression systems were designed to protect both the visitors and the invaluable artworks housed within the gallery. Evacuation times within the building for both staff & the public, were assessed and checked.
