Summary

AFEC was engaged to provide comprehensive fire safety consultancy services for the proposed material alteration and extension numerous schools across Ireland.

Key Services included:

  • Means of Escape: Ensured compliance with Regulation B1 by designing adequate means of escape for all rooms,. Analyzed exit widths, travel distances, and final exits to ensure safe evacuation routes.
  • Internal Fire Spread: Addressed internal fire spread by specifying appropriate classifications for internal wall and ceiling linings, ensuring materials met Technical Guidance Document B standards.
  • Structural Fire Protection: Designed loadbearing structures, floors, and walls to meet required fire resistance standards, ensuring structural integrity during a fire.
  • External Fire Spread: Assessed and designed measures to prevent external fire spread, ensuring compliance with space separation and fire resistance standards.
  • Access and Facilities for Fire Services: Recommended fire mains and hydrants, vehicle access for fire services, and personal access for firefighting.
  • Emergency Lighting and Signage: Specified the installation of emergency lighting and fire safety signs throughout the building for clear visibility and guidance during evacuations.

Fire Detection and Alarm Systems: Designed and extended the fire detection and alarm system to cover all rooms and extended areas, ensuring timely detection and alarm activation in case of a fire.
