Summary

Tara Mines, located near Navan in County Meath, Ireland, is the largest zinc mine in Europe and one of the largest globally. Operated by Boliden since 2004, the mine produces around 200,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 40,000 tonnes of lead concentrate annually. The mine has faced several operational challenges, including fluctuations in zinc prices and high energy costs, leading to temporary closures and a focus on cost-efficiency improvements.

Our role in the project involved developing comprehensive fire safety designs for the underground mining operations and surface facilities. We conducted detailed risk assessments to identify potential fire hazards and implemented advanced fire protection systems, including state-of-the-art fire detection and suppression technologies. Our team also developed emergency evacuation plans, ensuring clear signage and accessible escape routes for all personnel.

The Tara Mines project highlights our commitment to ensuring the highest standards of fire safety in complex industrial environments, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of one of Europe’s most significant mining operations
