The refurbishment of this live data centre in Ghent involved the modernisation and rationalisation of existing infrastructure within an operational mission-critical environment, requiring careful integration of new and existing systems while maintaining continuity of service. Working within a highly serviced facility, the project demanded a coordinated engineering approach focused on resilience, constructability, and phased delivery.
Scope included full mechanical, electrical, and public health design, single-line diagram rationalisation, BIM modelling, permitting support, and design development for a design-and-build tender. Delivered through close technical oversight and weekly site inspections, the refurbishment was carefully managed within a live operational setting with minimal disruption to critical systems.
This project demonstrates AFEC’s capability to support complex data centre refurbishments through integrated engineering design, digital coordination, and carefully phased infrastructure upgrades within live mission-critical environments.
