Summary

AFEC managed the Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) application for a three-story building with a basement, comprising treatment rooms, examination rooms, staff areas, and plant rooms. The initial submission demonstrated compliance with fire safety requirements under the Building Regulations 1997 to 2006. In addition to fire safety management, AFEC also provided Sustainability Consulting & Design and Building Services Engineering for the project, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sustainability and efficient building systems integration.

Fire Safety Measures:

  • Means of Escape (B1): Designed horizontal and vertical evacuation routes, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards.
  • Internal Fire Spread (B2 and B3): Specified materials and methods to prevent internal fire spread and achieve required fire resistance.
  • External Fire Spread (B4): Designed external walls and roof coverings to prevent fire spread between buildings.
  • Access and Facilities for Fire Services (B5): Ensured adequate access routes and facilities for fire-fighting operations.

Additional Provisions:

  • Compartmentation, Protected Shafts, Cavity Barriers, Fire Stopping: Designed to limit fire spread.
  • Emergency Lighting and Fire Detection Systems: Ensured adequate emergency lighting and early fire warning.
  • First Aid Fire-Fighting Equipment: Specified necessary equipment in accordance with standards.

These efforts ensured comprehensive fire safety compliance and protection for the building and its occupants.
